MTN PREMIER LEAGUE 2017/18 FIRST ROUND WAS A HUGE SUCCESS
The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) has acknowledged its stakeholders for the successful implementation of the 2017/18 MTN Premier League first round. This was highlighted by the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of the PLS in his offices at the Sigwaca House in Mbabane. The end of the first round saw Mbabane Swallows FC being crowned with the first round winner’s cheque of E350 000.00.
“We managed to play all our 14-team league matches smoothly and allayed fears of shortage of stadiums that some people may have had when the project was undertaken”; said the COO of the PLS. Football matches were taken to the fans as they were played in all the four regions of the country. They were played at Somhlolo National Stadium, Mavuso Sports Centre, Tambankulu Stadium, King Sobhuza II Stadium and Killarney Stadium. The COO also acknowledged the significant role played by the increased sponsorship from MTN Swaziland as it enhanced the competition in the first round. “The first round competition was very high due to the increased sponsorship package by MTN Swaziland”; he said.
Besides the increased sponsorship; MTN Swaziland came up with innovative fan engagement initiatives which also contributed immensely to the increased spectatorship during the matches. The COO of the PLS also acknowledged the role played by other stakeholders thus far as the league has shown some signs of growth when compared to other previous football seasons. Nowadays; football is business and this was evident in the first round as there was good revenue that was generated more especially from high profile fixtures as they pulled a lot of football fans.
In conclusion; the PLS COO congratulated Mbabane Swallows FC for winning the first round incentive with an unbeaten record and also the players who won the individual prizes (i.e. Player of the Month Awards).
